LLEGITIMI NON CARBORUNDUM

Translation: Dont let the bastards grind you down.

So being in the first full semester of my upper level classes is a nice little (horribly rude) awakening. Im averaging two papers due every day and about 500 pages of reading. This is not including training and research preparation for my 100 mile backpacking trip to the Appalachian Trail in March, sorority this and that, applying into my degree (by next week ahh!), and trying to have some kind of social life. So in efforts to not let the bastards grind me down I have some photos that have inspired me to be creative lately

This is a cozy backyard wedding, but I would want my backyard to look like this every day.

This is The Beatles with their Yogi, Maharishi. I read a bit about their experience in India in the book "Wonderful Tonight" written by George Harrison's wife, Patti Boyd. I would love to read more about their experience there. I spent a little time in a Tibetan Buddhist temple in Crestone, Colorado this summer and found the history and the culture fascinating.

Can you tell im on a color kick? This picture is (you guessed it) from Woodstock.

Although I have my mind set on going to Alaska for my 21st birthday, I have been doing a lot of research about traveling to India. Graduation perhaps? Nah, I would rather reward myself with this trip once I get a job and save up some money.

This is one of many pictures that is part of a pretty cool project a woman in Maine is doing. She goes to thrift stores, flea markets, and peoples attics and finds old pictures that people have written on. This makes my heart melt.

A Mess of Links

A quote I wish I would have understood the meaning of long ago, but am so glad I do now.
A dose of cute to make your day.
A cheat-sheet for all you wild child dreamers, like myself.
Another rude awakening from my Environmental Studies class the other day, the carbon footprint calculator.

Thats all folks

Back In Action!

So I know its been a while but Im going to get back on track with bloggin. This quote is exactly where I am at right now. I seem to have found myself a somebody, I really wonderful somebody. Even though its almost December its 78 degrees here in Tuscaloosa. Its miserable. Im so ready for the cold weather. This is making me have some serious cabin fever...that makes me want to go to a cabin in the mountains haha. The boy and I have been doing some good hiking and camping and I have a three day backpacking trip next weekend for a class final(sweet, i know).

These are from JM and I's trip to Cloudland Canyon State Park. Apparently 10 mile hikes arent for 4 month old baby Australian Shepherds. He was exhausted to say the least.

I could totally go for....

A beautiful cabin like this in Aspen.

Or sitting in the wilderness with my boy and his guitar.(or mandolin, or fiddle, or one of his many instruments)

Just enjoying the outside like we do best.

This is a wedding but doesn't it look like the perfect vacation?

One of my favorite blonde beauties of all times, Bridget Bardot chatting with a deer friend.

"Dont float the Mainstream"

This past weekend I attended the Sweet Water Beer Festival in Atlanta Georgia. This is an awesome charity event put on in Atlanta's beautiful Candler Park. Fun jam bands play all weekend along with there being a ton of awesome Eco-friendly vendors selling handmade goods ranging in everything from organic dog treats to just blown glass jewelry. Its free to get in if you are not drinking but if you are you buy a five dollar wrist band that goes straight to the caring of the park. Oh yeah not to mention Sweetwater and local breweries sell their exclusive beers for this event. I had a lot of fun and will definitely be going back. Its nice to get away from my little college town and get back to a taste of the big city life I grew up around.

This festival made me ready for all things outdoors and warm.

Like reviewing all of the relaxed looks from Coachella this year.

Wish i could buy her long hair and long legs in stores!
Not sure about the Tory shoes AND clutch but I do like the idea of mixing something a little more mainstream with a bohemian dress.
I love everything about this picture. Kate looks like she hopped right out of the seventies and what a sweet boyfriend for letting her get a better view on his shoulders.
Love a good scarf on the head with aviators combo.
Her hair + that shawl/vest/scarf makes her long so elongated and flowy.

Hello Summer Nights
This is my cool nights summer outfit im dying to put together. High waisted jeans, cropped flowy floral tank, chunky sweater, and nude heels.
Farmers Market
Im dying to try to pull off some tall socks with my brown flat boots. Im not exactly sure whether to wear the combo with shorts or a dress but im definitely thinking a sweater or summery scarf is necessary to balance out the heaviness.

Now its time to hit the books. Wish me luck. Finals...here I come.

Erin M.

Earthy Fairy Tail Goodness

Thinking ahead to this Fall makes me so excited about getting my house together and moving in. I love my roommate Sarah, and I think her and I are going to get a long great. My design vibe for my room is going to be earthy modern. Think enchanted forest fairytale.

Earthy Room

My inspiration board.

So far I have bought the pillow shams, comforter, and sheets from this...

and

Some brown and green throw pillows. The brown ones are felt bolsters with big scallops all over them and they look kind of like cartoon logs!

I already have a green sisel rug.

and I am DYING to a get an old school record player and rob my mother of her killer music collection.

but I want to get...

A DIY pink chair

This to die for mirror

Heavy chocolate brown curtains

Thats all I have done for my room now...more about that later. Lets end with a quote.

Have a lovely day,
Erin

Jet-Setting and House Projects...

Palm Springs
This will be my travel outfit for my flight to Palm Springs in a few weeks. My beautiful cousin Katie is getting married. I will be singing in this wedding which scares me to no end.

I happen to LOVE people watching in airports and I always love meeting a friendly stranger sitting next to me in-flight. One time I met the man who invented glow in the dark fish.

I would just die to hop back into the 60's and be a fabulous retro flight attendant.

The Rapping Flight Attendant

I love this video. My family always flies Southwest and that is fine by me because I have never had anything but easy security, super friendly service, and sometimes if im lucky a fun flight with a song or rap during the "In case of emergency" speech.

But before I head out to California I want to knock out a few DIY home projects for my house next year at Alabama.

From this...

TO THIS!

And

This cool mirror for my future super earthy bedroom(more about that later) but I want to spray paint mine a cool color after. Hopefully you will still be able to see the great texture of the twigs and wood.

In my efforts to start going green I have been planning my garden I will be growing at my house next year. Considering I have gone from living in a dorm room to a sorority house in the past few years im really excited to have my first house. The time has come. So I will be posting a lot about my plans for decor and such. I have very little planting experience aside from some herbs. I want to plant Dill, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme, Mint, tomatoes, potatoes, and lettuce. Let me know if you have any tips!

Look at this!

I love this special story from a very cool designer, Miss CK Bradley.
She designs some beautiful Lilly Pulitzer-like tunics but with a twist. Anything to do with the Lauren family i am obsessed with. I am sucker for all things Ralph Lauren. This is a photo from one of her catalogs.
Fun, right?

Whew, that was a novel of a post.

Always,
Erin

The End of an Era...

So Its our last few weeks of life in room 18 in sorority land and because we are all packing up and moving out, I had to change the name of my blog, this is one of many sad changes going on right now. My dear roommates (yes, you are a roommate too Sarah) will be graduating and leaving me to fend for myself here in Tuscaloosa. It has been a wonderful year with you three crazy hott messes, and I couldnt have asked for better girls to get stuck with in this hell hole of a room. Yall have seen me through a lot of boy problems, grumpy days, and exciting news stories and I appreciate yalls advice and putting up with me more than you know. I know I have been messy(both in personality and in our physical room) but I will miss yall very much and cant believe our year is over. I have made the decision to blog more consistently so yall know what is going on here and we stay in touch. I truly hope you call me occasionally for Glee chats, popular girl stories, a good whining about your day (AT WORK EWW WEIRD), if you need me to tell you how your life is in shambles (Morgan), or if you need me to tell you that everything you have tried on looks great on you only to eventually put on work out pants and a tshirt (Alexandria) because those are all things I will miss a lot. Thank you for accepting me with open arms and always inviting me or letting me invite myself to many things. Yall are amazing girls and will do so great in the real world, good luck and i love yall! See you at our weddings someday?

Things I love...

This beautiful wedding setting.

The fact that im going to be back home in my sweet, sweet, Dallas next week.

This cheeky coloring page from a vintage Playboy.

and last but not least,

This cute couple at Bonaroo last year.

Who I was definitely channeling at a fraternity shinanigan last weekend.

Stay Messy,
Erin
